Rhode Island Reds are a very nice dual-purpose breed with great temperaments. They belong to the American class of chickens, and their color is a deep red/brown.
Ours have very authentic coloring. The cocks are majestic with their metalic green tail feathers and deep metalic red necks. The hens produce around 300+ eggs a year.
The hens weigh about 6 lbs. and the cocks 9 lbs. They were developed in the 1830's from Malays, Brown Leghorns, and Cochins.
The rooster pictured above wearing the necktie is so sweet that he lets us dress him up.
Chicks are $2.50 each unsexed
