Why Turkeys?
Heritage turkeys, unlike the modern Broad Breasted Bronze and Broad Breasted White breeds, can breed naturally and don’t have to use AI (artificial insemination). Heritage turkeys have a long life span. Since they have slow growth rates, they are ready for market production in 28 weeks while the broad breasted breeds are ready in 24 weeks which causes them to get leg disorders and other major problems. The broad breasted breeds have an extra large breast which makes them unable to mate and they can’t forage very well, so they have to be almost completely fed to grow large.
