Raising Dairy Goats

Dairy goats can provide fresh, delicious and healthful goat milk. We bought dairy goats because some of the people in our family are allergic to milk from cows.  At first we bought fresh, unpasteurized goat milk from a nearby farm, but when we moved to a farm of our own, we bought our own doelings.  We had to wait about a year before they had babies of their own, and we could drink their milk. When they were about eight months old, they were big enough to breed, so we found quality breeders in our area who had CAE free herds. They agreed to let our does breed with their bucks because they knew that the people we had bought our doelings from had CAE free herds.  To learn about raising goats, our children joined 4H.  Over the years we have learned a lot about raising and caring for dairy goats. The information in the links on this page are from a lot of different sources including 4H, classes, and veterinarians. Keeping good records is essential - everything from when you give shots to details about birthing.  Recording all of your goat expenses is essential as well.
